Background

The DFL Progressive Caucus has a good reputation for having a strong presence at the Minnesota State Fair. We are known for providing information in fresh and interesting ways. For example last year, we featured a quiz book about health care (a real page turner ), an Instant Runoff Voting demonstration, and a "build your ideal candidate" activity. We also circulated petitions for our non-partisan friends who are working for change (MUHCC Single-Payer, Better Ballot IRV, and the DoPeace Campaign). At the fair, we also helped promote the conference of the Network of Spiritual Progressives. We reached hundreds of people and engaged them in interesting ways.

In addition to all of this, the DFL PC probably holds the record for staffing our table the most consistently over the duration of the fair (10 days, August 23 - Labor Day). How do we do it? We have been extremely fortunate to have such great friends in our volunteers who really understand what a tremendous opportunity we have at the fair where people from around the state gather. In addition to working a shift or two, we benefit from the creativity and talent of so many people who can put together a dynamite presentation, while others are happy to help out with the cost of fair tickets for those who can staff our table.

The Mission

Be a friendly face and talk to folks about the DFL Progressive Caucus! In the past we signed up hundreds of people interested in networking progressives who are organizing for change.

This year, we will make a special effort to invite people to our conference, Progressive Promise 2008, which will be held at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, Sept. 28-30.

Join a Team

With your help, we will do even better this year. You can sign up (RSVP) for any of the 3 shifts for each day of the fair. 9 AM to 1 PM. 1 PM to 5 PM. 5 PM - 9 PM. To make things more fun (especially for those who are helping for the first time), ideally volunteers will work in teams of 2 or 3 people per shift.
